Oil rig underwater welding

At Odin Diving A/S, we use a variety of oil rig underwater welding methods, depending on the specific requirements of the task, the depth, and the environmental conditions.

Wet welding:

This method is performed directly in the water using specialized waterproof electrodes. Wet welding is often chosen for quick repairs, as it allows divers to weld without the need for a sealed chamber. It is a cost-effective solution that provides fast and accessible maintenance.

Some of the techniques employed in wet welding include:

• Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
• Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
• Friction Welding (FW)

Dry (hyperbaric) welding:

Hyperbaric welding takes place inside a sealed, pressurized chamber that creates a dry environment around the welding area. This method is preferred for critical structural repairs, as it provides higher welder quality and greater durability. Some of the most technologically challenging tasks at greater depths require hyperbaric welding. These include, for example:

• Repair and maintenance of pipelines
• Repair of damaged structures
• Maintenance and repairs of various components
